Chesterfield FC manager Paul Cook has confirmed the club remain in the market for reinforcements, with a forward believed to be at the top of his shopping list.
The Spireites have been looking to strengthen their depleted frontline and provide support to strikers Eoin Doyle and Armand Gnanduillet for the majority of the summer but to no avail.
An enquiry from last season’s League Two champions to fierce rivals Mansfield Town over highly-rated forward Sam Clucas was confirmed prior to Saturday’s goalless draw at Fleetwood Town.
Clucas, 23, was left out of Stags’ starting line-up at Dagenham and Redbridge and manager Paul Cox has called for a quick decision to be made about the player, who is out of contract at the end of the season.
Cook said the former Lincoln City and Hereford man, who scored 13 goals for Mansfield last season, was one of ‘a hundred players’ he had asked about over the past week.
And, following an impressive display by his troops at Highbury Stadium, Cook said: “We put in a really good performance but we needed that first goal to make it a polished performance. We are in the market to make us stronger.”
