Former non-league footballer and manager John Knapper has rejoined the Spireites to work on the administration for the academy.

Chesterfield director Chris Breeze, who has responsibility for the academy, was instrumental in Knapper’s appointment.

He said: “I have known John a long time and I am delighted to have him on board.

“I think he will be a great addition.”

Knapper said: “I worked for the academy for about four years, from around 2003, under Mark Jules.

“I later worked in the finance department at the Royal Mail.

“The people are very friendly and welcoming at the club and I am looking forward to the role.”

Academy manager Mark Smith is pleased with the appointment. He said: “I am delighted to welcome John, who will deal with all the paperwork, leaving me to concentrate on working on the training ground with the players and coaching staff.”

Knapper played for the likes of Eastwood, Ilkeston and Alfreton.

A former Retford Town manager, he left his role as Rainworth MW’s joint-manager in May.
