Dean Saunders takes his side to Shrewsbury tonight (Tuesday) looking to shake off the disappointment of Saturday’s loss at Sheffield United.
Goals in either half from Che Adams ensured the Blades won the bragging rights and inflicted a first league defeat on the new Spireites’ chief.
Saunders has brought in midfielder Angel Martinez since the Bramall Lane clash, and he may well earn a debut against the Shrews.
On Saturday, subs Armand Gnanduillet and Gboly Ariyibi caught the eye during their cameos and may have fought their way into contention.
Saunders was, on the whole, delighted with his side’s showing in the Steel City but insisted they need to avoid conceding early goals.
Adams struck after just three minutes of last week’s contest and it followed the Barnsley game which saw the Spireites conceded after just four minutes.
As for Shrewsbury, boss Mickey Mellon thought his side played well, especially defensively, during Saturday’s 1-1 stalemate with Bradford.
Tyrone Barnett cancelled out Billy Clarke’s opener, which came just before the interval.
Mellon said: “It was pleasing that the team didn’t dwell on the opener and we battled our way back into it very quickly.
“It was a body blow to go in to the break behind.
“I was just grateful to see Barnett’s strike hit the back of the net.”
