Chesterfield 2, Northampton Town 1
Second-half goals from Craig Davies and Jack Lester saw championship contenders Chesterfield maintain their 11-point lead at the top of League Two.
It was the Spireites third straight victory and the home side broke the deadlock in the 64th minute when Davies blasted in his 21st goal of the season.
Five minutes later Lester made it 2-0 with a great finish from the edge of the area.
Northampton pulled one back through John Johnson with eight minutes remaining but it was Chesterfield who banked the points.
It was announced during the game that former Welsh international Rob Page had been released by the Spireites after his contract had been cancelled by mutual consent.
Defender Page (36), who has made 63 appearances for the Blues, hopes to move into football coaching.
