Spireites fan reaction: From those still believing to those losing faith and those fed up

We asked supporters to get in touch with their thoughts on the performance and how it left them feeling.

Here’s what they had to say.

For Matty Singlehurst, the glass is still half full.

He said: “The first half performance last night was as good as I’d seen them play all season, having been to every game home and away.

“They started from the back and passed the ball around very well, they’d obviously been working on it in training.

“When they lost the ball, they were winning it back immediately from pressing.

“Towards the end of the first half, you could see the lads were getting tired and the pressing began to die down.

“The second half, once again started very well, but the tiredness hit them far too soon, and it got sloppy.

“They were creating chances throughout both halves, they just weren’t taken.

“They just didn’t look fit enough and couldn’t perform like they had been doing in the first.

“If their fitness can be improved, I do see them being able to get out of this rut and turn it round, don’t get me wrong we won’t be storming up the table, but we can push on.

“We know the players have the ability, we’ve seen it, and once that first goal goes in, it’ll give them the confidence boost they so desperately need.”

Jonathan Morris’ glass is quickly emptying.

He said: “The first half was an improvement on recent weeks, on another day Evans scores at least two, O’Shea looked more like the player he can be and the wing backs got forward well.

“Unfortunately we were made to pay in the second half for the manager’s inability to see what’s happening in the game and failure to react to the tactical changes made by the home side at half-time – the wing backs were isolated and with respect to both, aren’t defenders and couldn’t cope with their wingers.

“Our midfield without Nolan is completely lacking any spark or creativity and we are far too reliant on Evans and Aryibi.

“As for the season, something has to change. Seven defeats in a row and six games without scoring is unacceptable and I have no faith in Danny Wilson to get the best out of the squad.

“There still isn’t the commitment and desire required to compete in League One and it’s his job to demand this from the players.

“We’re on a downward spiral and fans seem to be losing interest more than I have ever seen before, Dave Allen has to act before it’s too late.”

Sean Morris is worried.

“Looked good first half because they were poor, we got tired after the 60th minute which pushed them forward. Every one of our crosses was over hit or doesn’t get past first man.

“Every cross or set piece I was nervous incase we made a mistake or forgot how to defend.

“No creativity, no passion and no fight.

“Think we’re in danger as I can’t see where the next goal or win is coming from. Sinking ship at the moment.”

Connor Hayes still believes.

He said: “We were okay in the first half, we need to make and take chances when we get them.

“We have got the team to change the way we are going and we have got the players to get that win and climb up the table.”

Tim Gould doesn’t believe.

“Went to both the last two games at Charlton and Coventry. At Coventry, I sat pitch side with my mate who is a City fan.

“He said things along the lines of ‘your lot played alright until we scored, after that they had no fight, pride, belief or confidence,’ which of course is spot on.

“I used to count down the days, hours and minutes to watch the Spireites, in recent times I’ve dreaded it.”
