Spireites director to release statement on rumoured £10m Swedish consortium bid

A Chesterfield fan based in Stockholm has claimed on a message board that the bid, from a consortium boasting members involved with the likes of Volvo and Scania, was turned down.

The consortium, who had wished to remain anonymous, are said to have visited Chesterfield FC at various times although not as a collective.

It is thought their interest ended when their bid was rejected.

Carson told the Derbyshire Times at the club’s AGM earlier this month that they had received no ‘firm offers’ for the club.

But on a supporters Facebook page he appeared to confirm that the consortium did indeed have a bid knocked back in January by club owner Dave Allen.

“Dave Allen has still set an asking price of £15m. He did turn the offer down in January. I can’t speak for DA as to his reasons. He is still committed to the club and its success,” he said.

“I have gone on record on more than one occasion that we have not received any bids. By that I should have clarified meaning of £15m. We have received some what I would call speculative bids but no proof of funding has ever been given.

“There have also been a couple of people contact Shorts (the club’s accountants) but again nothing has progressed.”

Carson has tweeted this afternoon that the club will release an official statement on the ‘Stockholm bid’ tomorrow morning.
