Spireites boss Dean Saunders is happy with the start to his tenure at the Proact.
After two comfortable wins against Matlock Town and Buxton he said: “The players came through the games well and no injuries, which was the main thing. I’m pleased with the lads, we’ve looked like a team.
“We’ve got a lot of good young players, there are some good athletes as well, big strong lads who can run and play as well. I’m pleased, the football we played, the chances we created and two clean sheets.”
The Portugal training camp will end with an 11-a-side game at the ground of second division side SC Olhanense who are based a few kilometers East of Faro airport on the Algarve.
Saunders said of the trip: “We’ve got a good game lined up for Friday so everything we do in the week will be geared up for that game. I’ll get to know the players and they’ll get to know my staff; I’ll work with them closely every day, it’s always nice to train in the sun, it’s a different environment. Pre-season’s a slog, five weeks of training every day, it is hard work, so to get away from everything is good.
“We’re going there to work but we don’t want to over train, that’s as bad as under training. We’ll prepare for Friday’s game against a good Portuguese team and I’ll be looking to piece together my team ready for Barnsley.
“We still need a couple of players and I hope we can hold on to everybody.”
