Chesterfield FCs youth team face a difficult opening Midland Youth Cup tie against Shrewsbury Town at the B2net Stadium on Saturday, September 24, kicking off at 1pm.
Dave Bentley’s youngsters will be looking to go that extra mile this season after battling their way to the competition’s final last season, but marginally missing out on the night.
Rushden and Diamonds clinched a late victory in a close-fought 3-2 encounter in the end-to-end final as the Spireites had to settle for just the one piece of silverware at the end of the season.
The cup fixture has been scheduled for Saturday , September 24, and will be played in the absence of John Sheridan’s side that travel to the Valley to take on Charlton Athletic that afternoon.
Last season’s ‘league winning’ youth team featured Jordan Burrow, Ben Watkis and Matt Needham, who have since signed professional contracts with the Spireites.
Admission prices will be £3 for adults and £1 for concessions and will be all pay on the day.
