Chesterfield were held to a goalless draw in a game of two halves at Saltergate the last time Barnsley were in town on January 2, 2006.

The Spireites enjoyed plenty of the ball and could have snatched it nine minutes from time when Caleb Folan flashed inches wide of the target.

Derek Niven cancelled out Brian Howard’s opener to rescue a point for Chesterfield in the reverse league fixture at Oakwell in that campaign.

The two teams first did battle in Chesterfield on February 17, 1900 with the Blues edging the encounter 2-1 in the first of 33 wins over Barnsley.

There have been 21 draws and the South Yorkshire side have clocked up 27 successes in a total of 81 matches between the clubs, separated by 30 miles.
