Former Chesterfield FC player Gregor Robertson has signed a two-year deal with Crewe Alexandra, who gained promotion to League One last season.
Robertson, 28, was released by the Spireites at the end of last term but will not attempt to resurrect his career at Gresty Road.
Robertson began his professional career with Nottingham Forest before he moved to Rotherham United in 2005.
Two years later he joined Chesterfield where he gained a reputation at a utility player who could operate in a variety of positions.
Traditionally, he was viewed as a left full-back but he could also play on the left side of midfield and in the centre of defence.
Robertson suffered a broken leg during his time with the Spireites which kept him sidelined for a year and last season he was kept out of the side for a spell with an Achilles injury.
In all he made 133 appearances for Chesterfield and scored three goals.
