Bonafide journalists, ‘in the know’ Twitter accounts and supporters message boards are ‘hearing’, ‘understanding’ and ‘being told’ of players coming in and going out of the Proact.

Portsmouth supremo Paul Cook appears to be the subject of the most substantial rumours, the ex Chesterfield boss linked with moves for a number of Spireites stars.

It was reported last week, at both ends of the deal, that Pompey had made two bids for Jay O’Shea, bids that were subsequently rejected by Chesterfield.

Journalist Alan Biggs threw Dan Gardner’s name into the mix as well, and this morning Josh Sweetman, a sports journalism graduate and social media manager for wincashlive.com tweeted that Sylvan Ebanks-Blake was headed for Fratton Park.

Portsmouth have also gone for Lee Novak in a ‘big way’ according to national journalist Alan Nixon.

The striker, who finished the season top goalscorer at the Proact while on loan from Birmingham, is also the subject of interest from Shrewsbury.

The Shropshire Star’s Tim Nash says the Shrews are in advanced talks with Novak, who confirmed to the Derbyshire Times last week that he hadn’t spoken to the Spireites for over a fortnight.

A replacement for Aaron Chapman is the subject of debate among Chesterfield fans, with James Montgomery and Christian Dibble’s names prevalent.

Montgomery, who is believed to have had a trial at the Proact, told the Derbyshire Times he has recently signed a new one-year deal at Telford and hasn’t heard of any renewed interest from the Spireites.

Dibble, who has also been on trial with Chesterfield, is the son of former Manchester City stopper Andy Dibble and is represented by Full Contact, an agency with a number of Chesterfield players already on the books.

It is thought Mark Crossley was very keen on the youngster, but the goalkeeping coach has now moved on to Notts County as John Sheridan’s number two.

Danny Wilson has previously worked with Dibble at Barnsley.
