Chesterfield step up their preparations for the forthcoming League One season with a visit to Conference Premier side Lincoln City today (Saturday).

The Spireites have had an indifferent pre-season to date against Buxton FC, Matlock Town, Shrewsbury Town and Alfreton Town over the past few weeks.

Goalscoring sprees against near neighbours Matlock, of the Northern Premier, and Alfreton, of the Conference, have offered glimpses of encouragement.

And, after Tuesday night’s 5-1 win over Nicky Law’s Alfreton, Chesterfield’s assistant manager Leam Richardson expressed his satisfaction at the team’s progress.

He said: “It’s another step towards the ninth of August and Leyton Orient, overall we’re pleased with the session.

“We’ve been doing a lot of work this pre-season, it’s pleasing to see the lads grow again in stature and confidence.”

The Imps, meanwhile, are full of confidence after they brushed Doncaster Rovers, relegated last season from the Championship, to one side just seven days ago at Sincil Bank.
