More bad news for Chesterfield with Evans and McGinn out for significant periods

The striker has already missed three games through the heel injury he picked up at Oldham and is likely to be unavailable for October’s seven fixtures.

Chesterfield boss Danny Wilson is also without the services of right-back Paul McGinn who has a hamstring problem, along with long term injury victims Liam O’Neil, Tommy Lee and Angel Martinez.

Mercifully however, Dion Donohue is expected to be available for selection for Saturday’s visit of Bradford City.

Wilson said: “We had some good news about Dion’s knee, we thought the worst but thankfully it wasn’t.

“He’ll be in contention for the weekend.”

The news is not so positive on McGinn and Evans though.

“Paul will be out for another four to six weeks and Ched for another three to four weeks as well.

“It’s bad news.

“We expected him to be available for us for this weekend coming but we had some specialist advice on Tuesday morning and it will be another three to four weeks.”

The blow of losing Evans for up to another month is lessened somewhat by the form of the club’s other strikers.

Connor Wilkinson has netted four times in three starts after joining on loan from Bolton, while Kristian Dennis has three goals in his three Football League starts.

Wilson was pleased with their contribution in Tuesday’s 3-3 draw with Gillingham.

He said: “The two lads have done great again, Kristian has gone the distance again and the touch and technique of Connor is there to be seen.”
