Chesterfield have exciting new experiences looming ahead in their forthcoming League One season.
But for now, they are gently enjoying life in modest surroundings close to home.
Tonight, Paul Cook’s newly-promoted club sent a side to play in a pre-season friendly at Matlock Town.
And on a mild Summer evening, competing for the Autoworld Cup, there are few more picturesque places to play than the Gladiators’ Autoworld Arena.
They won 4-1.
The goals came from Armand Gnanduillet, Sam Morsy, Eoin Doyle and Dan Gardner. Matt Andrews got one back for the homeside.
It was Chesterfield’s second pre-season game, following Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Buxton, Jay O’Shea scoring a late equaliser following Shaun Tuton’s opener in that Derbyshire meeting.
* The highest profile friendly scheduled for Cook’s men stadium is the visit of Premiership side Aston Villa on Wednesday, July 30. They also host Leeds United on July 26.
This coming Saturday, they have a trip to Shrewsbury Town, (3pm.)
