As Tom Jones prepares to celebrate his 74th birthday at the Proact Stadium this afternoon, it’s not unusual to note that Chesterfield manager is looking to secure his best young players.
In addition to midfielder Sam Morsy, 24 year old Dan Gardner is also set to sign a new, improved and longer contract at the club.
Gardner joined from Halifax Town in January and made an immediate impact in the first team with a series of exceptional performances and goals.
However he picked up a nasty injury at Accrington Stanley that sidelined him for several weeks but he returned to feature in the final five matches of the season.
Paul Cook, who’s missing the big concert due to an overseas scouting mission, has so far this summer signed left-back Daniel Jones, an ex-Owl, from Port Vale plus Chesterfield born Wednesday youngster Charlie Dawes and FC United of Manchester centre half Charlie Raglan.
