The 21-year-old was signed in the summer from Chelsea’s youth system and made his senior debut for Town in August.

With 15 League One, EFL Cup and EFL Trophy appearances behind him, the youngster hopes to be involved in the most famous English competition of all when Wycombe Wanderers visit the Proact this afternoon.

“I didn’t get to play against Colchester so I’m looking forward to hopefully getting some minutes against Wycombe on Saturday,” he said.

“It really meant a lot to the players to get through because you don’t know who you’re going to get.

“Watching it as a boy, knowing it’s the oldest cup competition in the world, it’s important so to be involved in it would be special for me.”

An Arsenal fan whose only real connection to the FA Cup is watching his team win it, Mitchell insists the competition has retained its appeal.

“It still has the magic, you can play anyone, a team in League Two can play a Premier League team so hopefully we can get through and get a good draw,” he said.

“I’m really happy to be in it although they won’t be easy to beat, hopefully the run we’re on will help and quality will come through.”
