First defeat in ten for Spireites

Chesterfield suffered their first defeat in ten games when they were beaten 2-0 at Morecambe on Tuesday evening.

Craig Westcarr forced ex Spieite keeper Barry Roach to make a couple of early saves before the home side went ahead in the second minute of time added on at the end of the first half, Gary McDonald beating Richard O’Donnell with shot from inside the penalty area following a pass from Richard Brodie.

Morecambe doubled their advantage in the 52nd minute with a close range effort by Lewis Alessandra, again following a cross from Brodie.

The defeat was Chesterfield’s first under the tenure of caretaker manager Tommy Wright since he took over from John Sheridan in August.

Chesterfield: O’Donnell, Forbes, Trotman, Hird, Darwikwa, Ridehalgh, Togwell, Whitaker (Evans 61), Atkinson (Allott 62), Talbot, Westcarr (Lester 78). Subs not used: Wilson, Clay, Boden, Hazel.
