Ex-Stags and Spireites winger Adam Smith and midfielder Paul Marshall join Alfreton

Alfreton Town boss Nicky Law has strengthened his small National League North squad with two new signings.

Law, whose side are unbeaten in three matches after a fourth clean sheet last Saturday helped them to a 2-0 FA Cup win at Kings Lynn, has brought in former Chesterfield and Mansfield Town winger Adam Smith and experienced midfielder Paul Marshall.

Smith, who has joined from National League side Guiseley AFC, came through the youth ranks at Chesterfield, where he broke into the first-team squad in 2001 and made his debut a year later.

After fighting off several injuries, he was released by Chesterfield after seven seasons and 66 first-team apearances at the club.

He then played for Gainsborough Trinity, York City, the Stags, Lincoln City, FC Halifax Town and Wrexham, from where he joined Guiseley, initially on loan.

Marshall, a product of the Manchester City Youth Academy, where he also scored four goals in eight starts for the reserve side, has Football League experience with Walsall, Rochdale and Port Vale.

After spells at Stockport County and FC Halifax Town, Marshall`s last club was the Reds` league rivals, Bradford Park Avenue.
