Danny Wilson has hinted he might use today’s reserve game against Notts County to give Ched Evans and Jon Nolan more game time.
The duo both came on for the final 20 minutes of Saturday’s win over Bristol Rovers, but the Spireites boss said neither would be in contention for starts in the FA Cup this weekend.
Evans is recovering from an ankle knock while Nolan is making a return from a hamstring injury.
Wilson is considering today’s reserve fixture at Sheffield FC’s Coach and Horses Ground in Dronfield as a chance to aid their recovery.
“They’re not fit,” he said.
“Ched in particular is not fit. You saw when he came on he wasn’t match fit, he was blowing after the 20 minutes or so. And I think Jon as well.
“They need games, whether they play the reserve game or not we’ll have to have a little look.”
Although neither are yet in a position to push for a starting place, Wilson said their mere presence in the squad has given everyone at the Proact a boost.
“It’s just getting them back involved with us, that’s what’s most important,” he said.
“Coming onto the bench on Saturday whether they played or not they gave everybody a lift, that’s what I said would happen before the game and it did.”
Meanwhile the man who was withdrawn to allow Evans into the action on Saturday, Jake Beesley, has come in for praise from his boss.
The youngster impressed Wilson on his second start as a professional: “He grew into the game, he got better as it went on. What you’ll get from him is high energy. He works his tail off and he gave that for the team.”
Ritchie Humphreys’ Chesterfield reserve side face Notts County today at 1pm and admission is free.
