Caldwell happy with Spireites, despite '˜suicide defending'

As a defender, Caldwell must surely have cringed at how easily the Posh waltzed through the Town back line at times.

He said: “Disappointed, I said to the players to put that much effort and have that much quality in the attacking third and score goals, something we’ve been lacking recently, but to shoot ourselves in the foot and to give away the goals and opportunities we did, it was basic errors that cost us.

“It’s suicide, you can’t do it in football. It’s hard enough to win games but when you’re gifting goals, especially when we’ve got the early goal and the crowd is behind us.

“We had a fantastic start, played on the front foot and then just seemed to give the game away.

“That’s been the story of our season I think, losing is a habit.

“You feel uncomfortable when you’re in a winning position as a player and we have to try and get that out of our game.”

But he lauded the industry of his players, who produced some fine attacking play and created more chances in this game than they have in several recent outings.

“Delighted that they’ve given everything,” he said.

“I said after Saturday I need a bit more and tonight I think they gave a bit more and I still have to keep pushing and demanding that they give more and more.”
