Chesterfield 3, Derby County 1

Jordan Bowery hit a double as Chesterfield enjoyed a comprehensive victory over Derby.

The Chesterfield man came on as a substitute in the second half and had a big impact on the outcome of the pre-season friendly between Derbyshire’s two leading football teams.

Bowery made it 2-0 in the 67th minute with a glancing header from an excellent Tendayi Darikwa cross before making it 3-0 from close range with five minutes remaining after being set up by fellow striker Jack Lester.

And Bowery could have notched his hat-trick right at the end when he was clean through. Unfortunately, Rams keeper Adam Legzdins blocked his on-target shot.

Chesterfield were always in charge and had taken a 1-0 lead through Marc Richards in the 37th minute.

He received a cross from Danny Whitaker and although his first shot was blocked, Richards made no mistake with the rebound.

In time added on at the end of the second half, Derby netted a consolation they hardly deserved.

Former Chesterfield favourite Jamie Ward crossed from the wing and from ctwo yards out Steven Davies tapped it in.
