And the manager confirmed today that Ebanks-Blake and Angel were in the same boat.

Former Wolves striker Ebanks-Blake scored 10 goals in 37 games for Town last season, but fell out of favour with boss Danny Wilson and had his hunger and desire in training questioned publicly by the manager.

Wilson sent the front man out on loan to Shrewsbury back in September, but following Wilson’s departure Ebanks-Blake returned to the Proact and has made 13 appearances under Caldwell, scoring twice.

Caldwell has previously acknowledged that when he arrived, Ebanks-Blake wasn’t fit enough to contribute on a match day – a situation the player rectified.

For Angel, it’s been a bitterly disappointing spell with the club.

The Spaniard was signed alongside Ebanks-Blake in the summer of 2015 by Dean Saunders and both were given a two-year contract.

But just three games into his first season, the popular midfielder suffered a severe knee injury in training.

The problem required multiple surgeries and complications meant he didn’t complete a comeback until February of this year.

He played nine times in the second half of this season but his injuries have ultimately cost the 31-year-old a new contract.

Caldwell confirmed their departures.

“I’ve spoken to Dan, Sylvan and Angel. The club is speaking with them in terms of financial packages for them to go,” he said.

“They haven’t trained with the players this week, they’re three that have already been told about next season.

“I felt it was important to let them know early so they can prepare and speak to other clubs.

“We obviously need a squad for Sunday to fulfill our fixtures, but by telling them it gave them an opportunity to speak to other clubs earlier.”

Explaining their exits, the boss added: “The best of Sylvan in a Chesterfield shirt was when I was at the club so I can’t fault what he did when I was here.

“Angel – injuries and Dan has been here a long time.

“Any team that has been relegated, there has to be repercussions and that is the start of them.”
