Tom Anderson admitted there was no room for errors in today’s basement clash at the Proact.
The on-loan Burnley defender helped Chesterfield to a clean sheet in the 0-0 draw with Fleetwood, the side directly below them in League One.
He and Sam Hird were impressive all afternoon and offered protection for keeper Tommy Lee, who had little to deal with.
Anderson was pleased to finish the game with a point.
“It was a difficult game. Obviously we’ve done well to come out with a point, it’s better than nothing at this stage of the season,” he said.
“In the end we could have got a better result but we got a point, we’re happy with that.
“At this point of the season when you’re down there, there’s no room for errors or mistakes, you’ve got to do what you can to pick up three points. If you can’t pick up three, pick up one, it’s better than nothing.
“We’ve had a few crosses that have flashed across goal, great positions, we just couldn’t get there.
“If we keep going and do that on Monday at Oldham, we’ll pick up three points.”
Anderson has bounced back well from his last appearance at the Proact, when he scored an own goal and then slipped to allow Walsall in for another goal in a 4-1 defeat.
He said: “As a defender it’s your job to keep a clean sheet, so that’s two now.
“I had a little slip against Walsall but that’s two clean sheets in the last few weeks so we’ll keep doing what we’re doing.”
He credits defensive partner Hird with helping him settle into life at the Proact, in his first real taste of regular football at this level.
“I feel very comfortable with Sam beside me. Being a young lad coming straight into League One Sam was perfect for me, plenty of experience, talking me through games and making me feel assured in myself.”
The duo will be hoping for a repeat performance on Monday, when they travel to another side fighting for their League One lives, Oldham Athletic.
He said: “I imagine it will be a battle. We’ll recover right tonight and tomorrow and go there to try and get three points.
“Everyone knows, this league can change after two or three games. We have to try and get that gap bigger and climb up.
“We have to try and make it one defeat in nine on Monday and see where that takes us.”
