Chesterfield FC’s night of glory at Anfield in 1992 was one of the Spireites’ greatest ever matches.
Mighty Liverpool were the hosts in the second round of the League Cup and the Blues shocked the entire footballing world by taking a 3-0 lead in front of the Kop.
The hosts did stage a fight back and the game ended up as a draw with the teams sharing eight goals.
But going three up at Anfield and scoring four goals against Liverpool was a remarkable thrill for the 5,000 supporters who trekked to Merseyside to watch the clash.
It was an intoxicating event, one that those who were there will never forget.
And now Chesterfield FC Community Trust has planned a celebration at the Proact Stadium to mark the 20th anniversary of the memorable match.
It will take place on Monday, September 24, starting at 7.30pm and includes a free pie and pea supper.
Tickets are now available at the Spireites Superstore and there is a limit of four per person.
The goals at Anfield came from Steve Norris and Dave Lancaster, they scored two each, and both have pledged to be at the event. Other players from the night will also be in attendance
Big Dave said memorably afterwards: “We thought there’d be eight goals in it, but we didn’t think we’d get four of them.’’
In addition it was Steve Norris’s 31 birthday - what a great way to celebrate!
The event is part of a new Heritage project by the Community Trust linked to the After Time initiative.
It promises to be an evening not to be missed
