Second half goals from Evan Garnett and Michael Towey cancelled out Romello Nangle’s strike just before half-time.

The Nailers saw a lot of the ball in the first half and created several good chances but found themselves behind at half-time after Danny Fletcher played Nangle through one-on-one, who slotted the ball under Nailer’s ‘keeper Danny Haystead just minutes before the break.

Garnett equalised for Belper on the hour-mark, finishing confidently with the outside of his right foot after collecting a right-sided cross from Rob Stevenson.

Stevenson also had a big part to play in the winner ten minutes from time as he cut inside from the right and slipped the ball through to midfielder Towey who finished with aplomb from the right hand side of the box.

Nailer’s ‘keeper Haystead made two extremely important saves in the second half to keep the scores level, notably thwarting Carlton forward Fletcher with a strong left hand as he bared down on goal after taking advantage of Paul Lister’s slip.

Towey was Belper’s most dangerous threat all night and could have easily added to his solitary second half goal, the Nailers were causing the home side all sorts of problems down their right flanks as Stevenson, Garnett and Towey were linking up well.

Stevenson’s delivery from the left caused the Millers problems all night and could have caused more damage in the first half as one cross looped right over goalkeeper Curtis McDonald and came back off of his far post.

In the same attack another Stevenson cross was chested down by Nailer’s forward Ryan for the dangerous Towey whose first time volley was beaten away by the busy McDonald in the Miller’s goal.

Belper left-back Scott Matthews was booked in the final stages of the game for halting a Carlton counter-attack with a rash tackle which probably fell under the category of ‘taking one for the team’.

New signing Ben Fairclough came off the bench with twenty minutes remaining and looked lively down the Nailers right wing, he replaced forward Grant Ryan, who for all his efforts could not repeat Saturdays wonder goal.
