Alfreton Town set for stern test at Luton

Alfreton Town step into the lion’s den on Saturday when they travel to take on runaway Conference Premier leaders Luton Town.

The Reds face easily their most difficult game of the season as they put their four game unbeaten league run on the line when they take on the champions-elect at Kenilworth Road.

Luton extended their own unbeaten run to a massive 24 games on Tuesday night when they crushed Wrexham 5-0 to make it seventeen goals scored and none conceded after a 7-0 and successive 5-0 wins in their last three games.

And Reds manager Nicky Law is only too aware of the goalscoring power of the Hatters having seen his side succumb to a 5-0 home defeat against Luton back on December 7 when the visitors scored four goals in eight minutes in a brilliant purple patch early in the first half.

When asked if he would be making any special preparations for the game, Law ruefully replied ‘pray!’

He added: “We are going to have to think about something. If I am honest, we can’t go there and play 4-4-2 and perform like we did against Gateshead last weekend.

“We are going to have to come up with a bit of a plan this week, maybe go with a 1-9-1 formation!

“They (Luton) are going to win this league by a long shot. They are way, way above this level looking at the resources they have got, the players they have got and the good manager they have got.

“John (Still) has come in and changed a lot of people’s attitudes towards Luton, they are getting respect and earning respect in the right way.”
