Alfreton Town will be seeking revenge when they come head to head with Nuneaton for the second time in five days on Saturday afternoon, as the pair meet in the First Round of the FA Trophy.
Nuneaton firmly brought the Reds back down to earth on Tuesday night, prior to that game Nicky Law’s side had reached the dizzy and unprecedented positions of the playoffs following wins over both Braintee and Hyde.
That 3-0 victory represented a third straight success for Nuneaton over the Reds, a run which also saw them up seat Nicky Law’s side for the final play-off position.
At the Impact Arena though Alfreton should prove a sterner test, having been beaten only once on their own patch in their opening ten home games. That said Nuneaton do currently have somewhat of a hex over the Reds, with Alfreton losing their last three encounters against Boro and in the process failing to register a goal.
The Reds are at least boosted by possessing a fully fit squad for the cup clash and will have striker Jonathan Hooper available for the tie after he joined the club on a month’s loan spell from Northampton Town on Thursday.
Last season Alfreton fell at the first hurdle in this competition, going down 3-1 at home to Kidderminster Harriers - they will be keen to avoid such a showing this time round.
After the disappointment of Tuesday night, Alfreton will be determined to put the record straight, nevertheless Nuneaton will once again prove a tricky proposition.
