Matchwinner: Chris Atkinson for Spireites

Matchwinner: Chris Atkinson for Spireites

chesterfield claimed their first away win of the season through Chris Atkinson’s second half strike.

Spireites almost went ahead in fortunate circumstances in the 12th minute as a hasty clearance from Brown from a Darikwa cross whistled just passed his own post.

Chesterfield caretaker boss Tommy Wright was forced to make his first change of the afternoon in the 22nd minute as Allott pulled up with what appeared to be a hamstring injury.

Clay came on as his replacement #

Half-time: Aldershot 0 Chesterfield 0

Chesterfield’s best chance of the game so far came s Westcarr fed Togwell but the stand-in captain’s shot was easily saved by Aldershot keeper Young.

Chesterfield and midfielder Atkinson, on loan from Championship outfit Huddersfield, who were the next to come closest to breaking the deadlock.

The 20-year-old hit a sweet volley from fully 25 yards that drifted just wide of Young’s left-hand upright – the Spireites now enjoying their best period of the game.

ATKINSON, having come so close earlier in the second half, this time made no mistake as Chesterfield broke from midfield with Westcarr causing a nuisance in the Shots box.

The ball went loose as he tried to turn and Atkinson pounced and fired past Young into the bottom corner for his second goal for Chesterfield.
