New women's course record at Monsal Hill climb

Lou Bates broke the course record and picked up a £500 prize, beating Emily Verroken and Rebecca Goodson into second and third respectively with a time of 1:42:8.

The mens record, 1:14:2, set back in 1981 by Malcom Elliott is still intact.

He was on hand to present winner Adam Kenway of Metaltek Kuota, who overcame defending champion Joe Clarke to take the title with a time of 1:17:8.

Runner-up Clarke was joined on the podium by Russell Downing, a four-time previous champion who first won the event in in 1996.

Chesterfield’s Danny Featherstone of the Andy Moore Autocentres team finished eighth thanks to his time of 1:22:8.

On another sunny day at Monsal head there were 188 entries to keep the racing going for three hours in front of a big big crowd.

In the remaining categories, Simon Froberg of Dinnington RC took the veteran men’s title with 1:35:7.

Ann Walsham (Maxx RT) was the quickest veteran woman while Robert Gray (HMT Academy) won the junior mens event.

Felicity Gledhll (SportCity) took the title in the junior women and Oliver Rees (Holmfirth CC) the schoolboys, while Lily Greenhalgh (East Bradford CC) was the school girls winner.
