A sparkling year at the table for Isobel Ashley didn’t go unnoticed as she was named Active Chesterfield’s Junior Sportswoman of the Year.
Isobel, ranked six in the Table Tennis England Junior Girls standings, gained selection to represent England Schools U19 Girls in the Home Nations International.
The inclusion meant she has represented her country at every senior school age group - U13, U16 and U19 - and marked the occasion with individual and team silver.
A fantastic achievement was followed with a championship winning display for her team Burton Uxbridge in the prestigious Junior British League Premier Division, beating teams from England, Ireland and Wales on the way to national glory.
She boasts an average win percentage of 75 per cent over the course of the league season for Burton. Shea has also represented Aquaestil Table Tennis Club, Duga Resa, Croatia, in the Croatian Women’s Supa Liga and has just returned from a summer training camp there.
Following her time there, Isobel has been offered a place to play full-time table tennis in their academy after completion of her A level studies in June 2015. Isobel attends Netherthorpe School in Staveley, where her time management skills come to the fore, as she continues to excel both at and away the table.
Isobel played 19 matches over the year, winning close to three out of four matches, with a 73.68 win percentage. She became only the second female player from Derbyshire to win the Derby 4Star Junior Girls Open.
Alongside her playing commitments, she has achieved a UKCC Level 1 Table Tennis Coaching certificate and the 1st4Sport Level 1 qualification in Coaching Strength and Conditioning.
