Glossop CC slipped to defeat at home to Denton West last weekend in their penultimate home match of the season.

Glossop won the toss and elected to bowl first. The visitors knew that a win here would leave them on the cusp of the title and were in cautious batting mode.

Their first three wickets went for just 34 runs but they soon steadied the ship and the introduction of No. 5 batsman John Barnett saw him reach 59 not out as Denton West reached 141 all out.

In response Glossop lost eight wickets for just 72 runs with Steve Oddy decimating the hosts’ batting order with ball in hand.

Tim Rogers (41) chipped in with a hefty contribution but Oddy’s eighth wicket of the day, for the loss of just 50 runs, ensured Glossop were all out for 138.

Saturday sees Glossop go to Dukinfield, with Flowery Field at home on Sunday.
