The semi-finals and final of the Winston Cup (the league’s Twenty20 knockout competition) took place at Millhouses Park, home of Millhouses Works CC.
The first semi-final saw Apperknowle take on the second division champions Stocksbridge.
This proved to be a tight game. Apperkowle batting first made 81-9 from their overs. This modest score proved to be enough as Stocksbridge in reply fell four runs short at 77-6 in an exciting contest.
The second semi-final saw new league champions Holmesfield take on third placed Parkhead. Batting first Holmesfield totalled 112-6.
Again this modest total proved to be too much as Parkhead could only muster 98-8 in reply.
The final was thus a clash between the league’s top and bottom teams.
It proved to be a major surprise. Holmesfield batting first made a useful 130-7, with skipper Jimmy Pearson again amongst the runs hitting a fine 81.
Apperknowle made a superb reply reaching their target at 131-7 in the penultimate over to claim the trophy.
Their chief run makers were John Bagley with 42 and Phil Loughlin 38.
