Acting Derbyshire skipper goes 48 minutes without a run as Gloucester bowlers and poor light make life difficult

Derbyshire’s batsmen had to work hard to survive on the second afternoon of the LV County Championship Division Two match against Gloucestershire at Derby.

A combination of testing seam bowling and poor light made batting difficult and acting skipper Billy Godleman went 48 minutes without scoring a run at one stage.

Godleman and Ben Slater put on 47 for the first wicket before Slater was taken low at second slip for 17 off Liam Norwell who saw Chesney Hughes dropped at first slip by Geraint Jones on five.

Fortunately for Gloucestershire that did not prove costly as Hughes was caught behind for nine off Benny Howell and although Tillakaratne Dilshan pulled Norwell for six, Derbyshire had taken 32 overs to reach 77 for 2 at tea in reply to Gloucestershire’s 329.
