Despite a winning treble from Corey Wilson and doubles from Alicia Barrett and Alisha Collings, Chesterfield Athletics Club could only finish third in the first match of the McCain’s UK Young Athletes’ League new season after a long trip to Middlesbrough, writes Frank Gorman.
Corey, who is currently ranked in the UK top four for all the sprints from 60m to 200m, was awarded the club’s ‘Female Athlete of the Day’ while Ed Selvey took the male honours for his pole-vault performance.
There was also a promising debut for newcomer Katy Gigg who won the U13 Girls 1200m by a wide margin, despite her lack of experience in race running.
Match result: Doncaster 638, Middlesbrough 502, Chesterfield 461.
