‘We have 26 cup finals ahead of us,’ says Chesterfield boss Paul Cook
CHESTERFIELD manager Paul Cook says he is fully focused on promotion from League Two after his side’s 2-1 defeat to Tranmere Rovers in the second round of the FA Cup.
Liam Cooper gave the Spireites the lead but they couldn’t repeat the heroics that saw them thump League One strugglers Hartlepool 6-1 in the first round of the competition in November.
Rovers hit back through Cole Stockton before Adam McGurk gave the League One leaders a place in the third round where they were drawn against Championship side Derby County.
Cook was naturally disappointed on his return to Tranmere, where he made over 60 appearances between 1995 and 1996, but said closing the gap on those at the top of the division was priority.
He said: “It was a good cup tie involving two competitive teams who had a right good go at each other. Unfortunately we came off second best.
“We wish Tranmere the best of luck and we move on. We’ve got another 26 cup finals coming up. Our sole attention is the league and we want to get promotion.
“We need to move up this league we need to be in the play-off or automatic situation this club demands and should have.”
