Spireites release keeper

Teenage goalkeeper Dan Whatsize has been released by Chesterfield FC.

The former youth team player was offered a short-term deal at the start of the season to give him the chance of playing professional football with the Spireites.

Whatsize (18) has made a number of appearances on the bench but did not make a first-team appearance and has been set free to give him the chance to find an opening elsewhere.

Opportunities for the Leicester based player have been very limited with two senior keepers, Sunderland loanee Trevor Carson and Tommy Lee in the squad, and second year youth team goalkeeper Matthew Malak also providing strong competition.

Chesterfield manager Lee Richardson said: "We gave Dan a taste of professional football but with such limited opportunities he has been released to give him the best possible chance of finding an opening at another football club. We wish Dan all the best for the future."
