Hall stakes his first-time claim
Danny Hall is hoping to retain his place in Chesterfield FC's starting line-up after an impressive display in the thrilling 5-2 victory over Burton Albion.
It was the central defender's first League Two match of the season and in addition to scoring the game's opening goal his formidable all-round performance earned him a place in the coveted team of the week.
Hall (24), a first-team regular last season, was in danger of becoming the forgotten man but he made the most of his chance when fellow central defender Rob Page was suspended for the Burton clash.
''My selection came as a complete surprise, I thought maybe I'd make the bench. The gaffer came into the changing room at 2pm on Saturday and announced the team, so I did not have too much time to dwell on it,'' he said.
Chesterfield were on top from the kick off and the Blues No18 scored the opening goal after 12 minutes with a fine finish.
Hall said: ''A shot from Mark Allott was deflected towards me but I knew I had a player at my back.
''I thought I'd have a little turn to see what happened and when I did a gap appeared and there it was.
''It was nice to play a game of football and score,'' he said.
Page is back in contention for this weekend's visit of Barnet but Hall hopes he has done enough to retain his first-team shirt.
''Rob has done very well this season alongside Ian Breckin but I would like to keep my place. I've got to keep my fingers crossed, because it's all up to the gaffer. Last year I didn't have too many openings early in the season but when I did break into the team, I held on to my place and I hope a similar thing will happen this time around,'' he said.
Midfielder Allott also made the League Two team of the week after his 50th league goal gave Chesterfield a 2-0 lead.
The victory over Burton maintained Chesterfield's unbeaten start to the season at Saltergate and left them a point shy of a play-off berth.
Meanwhile, Donal McDermott's three-month loan spell with Chesterfield comes to an end after the Barnet match this weekend.
McDermott (20), joined the Spireites from Manchester City, and has scored five goals in his 12 starts.
The Irish-born player has operated on the right wing and his pace, close control and eye for goal have provided a major boost for the team.
l The Midlands Co-operative is offering a special Buy-One-Get-One-Free ticket offer for Saturday's home game against Barnet.
