Charity Day is a great success

On Saturday Matlock Golf Club held its annual Captain’s Charity Day.

Members raised in excess of £1,600 towards this season’s captain’s nominated charities of Chesterfield Cardiac Rehabilitation and Myeloma UK.

An Am-Am competition was held on the day with Graham Jones, Jack Greatorex, Barry Dring and Malc Morley winning with 91 points. The best mixed team was lady captain Louise Jones, Carol and Rae Gladwyn and Veda Kay with 80 points, while best ladies team was Pam Hedley, Sadie Clayton, Jill Smith and Raile Turk with 76 points.

On the prestigious finals day the weather was kinder than expected but still conditions were somewhat wet and windy making play difficult.

The club competition winners were; Presidents Cup - Andy Norton, Drabble Cup - Richard Duff, Thornton Trophy - Roy Parks, Fourball Match Play Trophy - Nick Kay and Chris Parker, Bailey Memorial Trophy Foursomes - Rob Inglis and Craig Murphy, Greatorex Cup - Denise Morley, Goodwin Memorial Trophy Mixed Foursomes - Cynthia Machent and Stuart Baker; Junior Singles - Tom Mooney, Junior Foursomes - Tom Mooney and Luke Chapman, Junior Four Ball Better Ball - Tom Mooney and Ryan Gebbie.

The Matlock ladies team of lady captain Louise Jones, Veda Kay and Carol Gladwyn with Jan Bilbie of Breadsall played in the lady captain’s Am-Am competition held at Breadsall Priory. They came first on the count back with 88 points.

In the in-house competitions the Men’s Medal 12 winners were; Div 1 - Andrew Hession, Div 2 - club captain Ian Marr, Div 3 - James Luckcroft, Div 4 - Ashley Wood, Veterans - Peter Draisey.

In inter club matches, the vice captain’s team halved their match at home with Ashbourne, and in appalling conditions at Cavendish the Seniors narrowly lost their last match of the season at Cavendish 4 to 3.

Meanwhile, Paul Graydon’s day got better on Friday with a hole in one on the fourth hole.
