North Derbyshire Chargers u15s are celebrating after they romped towards the Yorkshire Division Four title in emphatic style.

The Chargers dominance of the division this year was there for all to see as they swept aside their closest challengers West Leeds with a devastating 10 try performance.

The Derbyshire side also allowed their opponents very few scoring chances. First half tries by Callum Hallows (2), Harry Chapman, Macauley Watkinson and Luke Walters helped the Chargers on their way.

Chapman converted three of them, giving the champions-elect a half time lead at 26-0.

West Leeds also contributed to their own downfall when they had a player sent off for punching.

The second half was more of the same. West Leeds did get more possession than in the first period but the Chargers defence was always on top and the visitors remained scoreless.

In the meantime Hallows completed his hat trick, Watkinson added a second and there were further scores from Jake Beech, Aaron Wycherley and Harry Stephenson.

Chapman claimed another three conversions and Warren Brown was also accurate with his kicking as the Chargers eased to a 54-0 full time score.

The team’s 16th win in a row extended their lead at the top to eight points with just three games still to play, sealing the title.

They have been defeated just once this season - on the opening day against York Acorn.

Chairman Ged Connolly-Thompson praised the side for winning the club’s first silverware at junior level.

“This team is a real credit to the club,” he said. “They play some great rugby and play it hard but fair. I would also like to thank their head coach Lee Walters and the coaching staff, team managers and parents .”
