The Gents Captain’s Day at Chesterfield Golf Club was a huge success.

The day before the big Sunday event there had been constant rain but the manager at the Walton course and his staff had worked hard to present the course in a super condition with greens running exceptionally fast.

The first members teed off at 6.30am and subsequently every seven minutes until 2.37pm.

The format of the competition was medal play off the white tees.

All those taking part attended a presentation dinner which brought the event to a close.

When play resumed the following day, Monday, the heavens opened.

Play, however, was less taxing as competitors played off the yellow tees in a Stableford event.

From the Sunday section, Lucas Davis was a double winner.

He scooped the best nett prize with a score of 68 and he was nearest the pin on the 15th hole. The best gross winners was Darren Coup.

From the Monday entrants, first was Keith Thompson with 32 points. Second was Tony Hession.

The Nine Hole winner was Alan Blackburn with seven points; Seniors +75 Brian Carter; Nearest The Pins, eighth hole: Jeff Pidgeon; 15th: Brian Harrison

In Derbyshire U16 League there was a game against Staffordshire at Ashbourne which resulted in a home win.

There were triumphs for James Wadsworth and Jamie Booth winning 4&2 and George Biggin and Gianni Risorto winning 2&1 in the fours.

In the singles James Wadsworth won 2&1.
