Captain’s Day took place on Sunday, July 6, and the sun was shining from start to finish making the day perfect for the captain, his guests and all the players at Chesterfield Golf Club.

The first teed off at 6.50 am after partaking of the customary glass of buck’s fizz; the remaining field followed at eight-minute intervals until approximately 3pm.

The last of the matches were completed by 7.40pm and everyone was able to be seated for the dinner and presentation of prizes by 8.15pm.

Captain Mike McLean in his address to the members thanked all those who have supported him and Enid during this year, in particular for the honour of being made honorary members. He also referred to the generosity of a member whom offered to pay £5 to the captain’s charity for every birdie and £10 for every eagle shot in the Sunday and Monday competitions.

£645.00 was raised and will be added to the Ashgate Hospice fund.

Mike then presented Wain Cooper with a watch in recognition of his 25 years service to the club as a Green Keeper (he has in fact been with us for 27years).

He then introduced his guests which included five of his assistants including the current one, Shane Naisbet.
