ANTON Brown was a hugely popular choice as Alfreton Town’s Supporters’ Player of the Season.
The impressively consistent midfield player, who has also filled central defence and left-back positions this season, was presented with his award at the end of last Saturday’s final game of the season.
He beat off very good competition to land the coveted prize with striker Nathan Arnold finishing second and defender Theo Streete third.
Brown has been one of the driving forces behind the Reds’ stunning turnaround in form as he weighed in with ten goals in a season where the ultra loyal player chalked up his 250th appearance for the club having joined the Reds in the summer of 2006.
The Reds beat Bath City 2-1 to record their one and only league double of the season which ensured a final finishing place of 15th in the table from what has been a roller-coaster of an historic first season in the Blue Square Bet Premier Division.
It was a position that no-one would have considered in the first four months or so of the season as Nicky Law’s squad struggled to find their feet.
Indeed, the turnaround in form was such that the side picked up 40 points from the 23 games played in the second half of the season having only been able to garner 14 from the first 23 matches.
The remainder of this season’s player awards will be made at this Friday’s Presentation Evening which is being held at The Boundary in South Normanton.
A few tickets are still for sale and can be purchased by contacting director Roger Webster on (01773) 520851.
Prior to the Bath City game, ‘Mr Alfreton’ Tom McRoy was made an honorary President of the Supporters’ Association.
