NICKY Law described Tuesday night’s 6-3 thrashing of Blue Square Bet Premier Division side Cambridge United as the best result Alfreton have achieved under his three-and-a-half-season managership.
As with the first game last Saturday, the Reds came from behind to stay in the game, but in the replay they found another gear to out-gun a side a division higher and progress to the last 16 of the competition and a mouth-watering derby clash at Mansfield Town in the next round on February 5.
The Reds boss heaped praise on his young side who triumphed through advertisy at the Abbey Stadium.
He reflected: “My players were brilliant. To say it was a seventh game in 18 days just didn’t matter to them. They just don’t know when they are beat.
“I can’t speak highly enough of them. Not only are they good footballers, they never know when they are beat and the effort they have put in over the first 18 days of the month has been incredible.”
On Saturday the Reds return to Blue Square Bet North league action with a trip to Worcester City.
On Tuesday Alfreton are in Derbyshire Senior Cup fourth round action with a home game against Glapwell. Kick off at 7.45pm.
