Two members of the Eckington-based Ni-Kurai Karate School are celebrating following their recent black belt promotions.
Lee Coupe, 16, achieved his first dan black belt after training with the school for the past eight years.
Lee underwent a two and a half hour examination and was also required to submit a 1,000 word thesis on the history of karate.
Chief instructor of the Ni-Kurai Karate School, Paul Treweek, was also awarded his sixth dan black belt after devoting the past 35 years to practicing and teaching karate and self defence.
The Ni-Kurai Karate School trains every Tuesday and Thursday at Eckington School, from 7-9pm (Gym 1).
