Awards for Bolsover’s top sports people

The top sports people from across Bolsover District gathered at the glitzy Bolsover District Annual Sports Awards ceremony which took place at Shirebrook Leisure Centre.

Among those recognised were Paralympic GB Basketball player Jon Hall, from Clowne, Paralympic GB Boccia coach Julie Broadhead, from Whitwell, Junior Team of the Year, Glebe Boys football team, from South Normanton, and rising football starlet Mason Bennett, from Langwith, who plays for Derby County.

In addition to the wide range of winners, the evening also helped to celebrate the diversity of sporting activities and clubs from across the district.

The audience was also treated to a demonstration by The Kickboxing Academy and Olympic torchbearers Kaylet Smedley and David Raizada gave an insight into what it was like to be part of the Olympic Torch Relay as they carried the Olympic Torch through Bolsover.

The 2012 winners were: Service to Sport Award sponsored by ECS Engineering Services Ltd – Stephen Harris; Community Coach of the Year sponsored by Capital Refractories Ltd – Lee Walters; Young Leader of the Year sponsored by Junction Arts – Robert Martin; Club of the Year sponsored by Banks Renewables Ltd – Bolsover & District Cycling Club; Junior Team of the Year sponsored by ECS Engineering Services Ltd – Glebe Junior School Boys football team; Junior Sportsman of the Year sponsored by HW Martin Waste Ltd - Connor Emery; Junior Sportswoman of the Year sponsored by Junction Arts – Sophie Baggaley; Disabled Sportsperson of the Year sponsored by HW Martin Waste Ltd – Jon Hall; Sportsperson of the Year sponsored by Banks Renewables Ltd – Mason Bennett.

The Bolsover winners will now go forward to county, regional and national sports award events.
