Chesterfield’s athletes shine at Northern Indoor Championships

Members of Chesterfield and District Athletics Club excelled at the Northern Indoor Championships over the weekend at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.

Lauren Hill finally got her hands on gold, having taken two silvers and a bronze at nothern events over the past 12 months, in the U15G pole vault with a clearance of 2.60m.

Club team-mate Rebecca Wardle just missed out on the medals with 2.20m, which saw her finish fourth. Alistair McInulty claimed bronze in the U20M pole vault.

Ella Barrett returned to the track after an injury interrupted start to the indoor season to take 200m silver in the U20W event.

Sister Alicia won bronze in the U20W 60m and had qualified fastest for the 60m hurdles but was disqualified in the final for a false start.

There was a sixth-placed finish for Connor McQuade in his heat of the U20M 400m (54.92s) and Rob Smith came fourth in his heat of the U17M 200m (25.24s).

Charlotte Hickin finished seventh in the U17W high jump (1.50m), Rebecca Conway fourth in the U17W pole vault (2.50m) and Vicky Price fourth in the U20W pole vault (3.00m). This came a week after club athletes competed in the Derbyshire Cross Country Championships held at Wollaton Park in Nottingham.

Lauren Davies-Beckett took top honours in the U20W race with double gold as her individual win led the team to top spot, with the able assistance of Rebecca Herring and Emily Wass.

There was further individual success with Will Tighe comfortably taking the U13B event, leading the A Team to second place overall. The B Team claimed fourth.

Mikey Broomhead 13th, Harry Green 14th, Finlay Grant 15th, Thomas Morley 19th and William King 21st for the U13B. Alex Adiker took individual bronze in the U15B race and in doing so led the team to the county title with Elliott Meylan sixth and Jacob Buckley 11th.

The club’s U20M also took the team event with Campbell Menzies, Sam Broomhead and Daniel Cresswell taking fifth, sixth and seventh places respectively.

The U15G finished third with Lydia Hudson fifth, Chloe Pheasey 13th and Abigail Turner 15th. Abbie Darnell in the U13G race came 16th, Lydia Cresswell 21st and Faith Clarke 23rd to take team fourth overall.

Esme Calder finished 14th in the U11G, Alexander Partner 11th in the U11B. Joseph Briggs 11th and Tom Barnes 14th in the U17M. Chris Barnes came 93rd in the senior men’s event, he was the 32nd M40.
