Chesterfield athletes shine on big stage

Members of the Chesterfield and District Athletics Club returned from the Derbyshire County Championships with a multitude of medals.

Ella Barrett led the way with a hat-trick of under 17s women’s sprint titles, all in championship best performances.

Joe Walker took five U15s boys’ titles in total, breaking the championship bests in both the long jump and 300 metres.

The club’s final championship best of the weekend came from Alicia Barrett in the U17s women’s 80m hurdles.

Lauren Hill won gold in the U15s pole vault, as did Sophie Quince in the U17s 3,000m, Rebecca Conway in the U17s pole vault, Shannon Ashmore with the U17s shot, javelin and discus together with the U20s javelin, Lauren Davies-Beckett in the U20s 3,000m, Rebecca Herring in the U20s pole vault and Louise Feeney with a senior hurdles double.

Chesterfield’s men also tasted gold with Oliver Dakin in the U13s 100m, 200m, 75m hurdles and long jump, Will Tighe in the U13s 800m and 1,500m, Joe Houghton in the U15s pole vault, Rob Sims in the U17s hammer,Jack Nemeth U20s 100m and Chris Price in the senior pole vault.

In the U11s Quadkids event (75m, long jump, howler throw and 600m), Layla Brough took gold in the girls event with Harry Snell finishing in the bronze medal position in the boys section.
