Determined residents are getting ready to raise more than £250,000 to save their village hall after failing to get grants for the vital work.
Plans for a huge fund-raising initiative, aimed at saving and restoring Tansley's dilapidated building, will be unveiled at an open meeting tomorrow, at 7.30 pm.

The Tansley Village Hall Restoration Project failed to get help from the Big Lottery
Fund and members now hope that people will get involved and help them raise the money they need to refurbish and modernise the hall, which was once Tansley School.

David Johnston, Village Hall Committee chairman, said: "The roof is leaking, the decor is drab and outdated and the layout very restrictive.

"Community hub"

"The Village Hall is all we have left in terms of a community hub. We need to make it fit for purpose for the 21st century, otherwise how can we sustain it financially over the longer term?"

At the launch tomorrow, residents will have the opportunity to learn more about the project, voice their views on the restoration plan, and contribute to the fund-raising initiative.

The committee is also appealing to firms and individuals to donate goods or services for project, which is supported by the Parish Council and by the Tansley Development Association.
