Children's Minister Beverley Hughes visited Edale to outline plans for a new £4.5 million project.
The trip to the village's youth hostel was used to launch the Do it 4 Real scheme which aims to give young people chances to experience adventure, arts, media projects and residential summer camps.

Ms Hughes said: "I am pleased that this new funding will give hundreds of young people the opportunity to take part in lots of positive activities.

"The summer break, in particular, gives children and young people time to relax and develop their interests. We want to make sure that young people have plenty of interesting things to do, are kept active and engaged, and out of trouble.

"These camps will give these young people a chance to mix with their peers, have fun, make new friends and learn new skills."
