AROUND 100,000 people are expected to descend on a famous Derbyshire estate this weekend as it stages one of the country's largest outdoor events.
The 27th Chatsworth Country Fair kicks off tomorrow for a three-day showcase of the region's most popular pursuits and finest produce with activities for all the family.
TV gardener Alan Titchmarsh presides over the event and will feature in a 'cook-off' alongside the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire on Friday.
Packed
This will take place in the Fine Food Village – a new element introduced to the fair last year – which will be packed with more than 40 exhibitors selling fresh produce, chutneys, cheese, meat, alcohol, and kitchen gadgets.
Other highlights include hot air balloon lifts, parachute displays, horseback cavalry drills, traditional fairground rides and 'have a go' activities such as archery and clay pigeon shooting.
A huge team of staff has been preparing the site next to the River Derwent for the event.
Organiser Christopher Lloyd Owen, who has been in charge of the fair for the last six years, said: "We start with bare grass two weeks before the event and end up building a small town with electricity, running water, 280 toilets, 10 bars, 15 catering outlets and 250 trade stands.
"We even arrange deliveries of bread, milk and papers for the 1,000 people sleeping on site throughout the show.
"It is testament to everyone's hard work that we are able to return the park back to the resident deer just three days after the last visitor leaves the show."
Tickets cost £13 for adults on Friday and Saturday, £15 on Sunday. Children under 14 enter for free if accompanied by an adult.
Gates open at 9am with the closing ceremony at 6.30pm.
